Faked Brain Cancer?
Last month, a DATELINE type of story rocked our news channels. A single mom of two young girls, from a smaller town just outside of where I live apparently was being investigated for faking to have brain cancer. Holding 5 benefits, with the last one being canceled, raising more than $10 K in donations. What is so crazy about this is, she was another hairstylist at the salon I work at! You heard right. Can you believe it. Who are earth tries pulling off something like this and thinks they can get away with it. What is even worse is her poor children. What kind of mother does this. Obviously the lowest of low. The thoughts of them thinking they may loose their mom. I can't even fathom the thought.
It all started in the fall of last year when she announced she had an inoperable brain cancer. She had taken a leave from the salon not to return til May of this year. I however started in January so I did not get much chance to get to know her. I had heard all the stories and was filled in on her progress. We even had put together a big salon gift basket to be raffled off for a silent auction for the last benefit.
As more an more came out, she was eventually arrested and is now facing several felony charges. Serves her right. She scammed so many people and a entire community. These people reached out and gave what little they could to help her and her children. For someone to stoop so low, when there are so many people suffering and holding benefits who truly need our help. I do my best to donate and help where possible, and even though it may not be much, it is the smallest acts of kindness that make a difference. But I am sure everyone agrees we did not donate to help her remodel her bathroom. I feel for all the people she ripped off and I pray for her children.

What is more exciting is that the Dominican Republic is one of my favorite places. I have been to almost all the the carribean islands and I have been longing to return. I have been to both Punta Cana and La Romana and I would definately tell anyone if they are thinking about a trip they need to seriously consider the Dominican Republic.

Summer Fun!
I can't believe summer is just about over. Although many have gone back to school my girls don't start back until this Wednesday. Many parents are happy when school is back in session but for me, I enjoy them being off. Perhaps I will feel different when I actually have them all in school, but for now, I wish we had more time.
Summer for us means sports, swimming, and just hanging out. And of course our favorite, vacation! Not that we get to go some place tropical or some place remote, but every year we enjoy going to visit family in Cincinnati. Ever since I was a born I have always gone at least once a year. It is probably my girls favorite things to do. There is so much to do that we never have enough time.
The one thing not to miss is Kings Island and The Beach Water Park!
